i have the pegatron violet6 board on my p6320y computer. i upgraded my processor to a phenom ii x4 975. can someone tell me is it the board that prevents me from overclocking the processor and why the processor doesn't seem to be running at 3.6 gz? if i read it correctly ,with cpuz, it is running at 3.2 gz. thanks for any help.

Hi,
HP uses a locked bios so you can't makes bios changes to over clock the processor. After checking HP's specifications for the motherboard in the p6320y, I can find no reference in support of processors over 95 watts TDP. The X4 975 is 125 watts. It might be a documentation issue on HP's part or you are just fortunate that the processor works.

Thanks Dave. I was afraid it was something like that. I should have researched it a bit more. Do you have any idea what would be a good replacement board for this one? I hate to do it because I'll have to buy another OS for it. Once again, thanks for the info. Boy, I wish I had talked to you earlier.

Hi,
Most HP PCs use a microATX form factor motherboard. There are many choices. MSI, Gigabyte and ASUS would be the place to start the research.
This ASUS might be an excellent choice to go with the 975 that you purchased.
What you need to do is to carefully review the specifications for the new motherboard verses your old motherboard. Look at the features on the old motherboard that you are using and be sure that the new motherboard supports your needs.
