I have an HP Pavilion 590PC and would like to know how to change the existing GEForce GT420 graphics card with the GE Force GTS450 and will there be any noticeable difference?

Hi,
If you need improved video performance then the answer is yes. You will notice the difference with video intensive applications.
Review the NVIDIA performance specifications. Look at the memory bandwidth specifications and the DirectX level support. Also review this comparison.
The NVIDIA GTX 550 TI is priced similarly to the GTS 450. The GTX 550 TI is a faster video card compared to the GTS450. Look at this comparision.
Open up your PC and do some measuring in parallel with the PCI-E x16 slot to see how long of a video card will fit. The slot adjacent to the PCI-E x16 slot needs to be vacant.
These HP 'how-to" articles should be helpful.

Thanks Dave
Your reply certainly encouraged me and as I already had the GEForce GTS450 to hand I went ahead and fitted it But the monitor wouldnt start ??
I replaced my old GT420 and all was well so I checked and downloaded the latest drivers for the 429 (which happen to be the same for the GTS450) still no joy with 450.
The GT420 has DDR3 and the GTS450 has DDR5 what is this and will that make any difference.
The GT420 just slots in with no power attached---does the GTS450 require seperate power.
My PC is HP Pavilion Elite 590uk

Hi,
Yes the GTS 450 requires a PCI-E 6 pin power connector. Your PC has a 460 watt power supply so there should be one available.
