Hi,
The NVIDIA 690 is only a "pipe dream" right now. Let's see what happens after the rumored launched date of April 28th.
Open up the HP Z1 if you have one and look at the availale power connectors and also note the size of the power supply. The Z800 with the 875 watt PSU might work depending on the available power connectors.

This answers absolutely nothing. The question really is:
1) Can the z1 all-in-one's graphic card be upgraded/replaced with another retail card by unplugging it and plug n a new one, or is it soldered onto the motherboard.
2) What is the performance of the quadro 4000M compared to standard nvdia & ati graphic cards? Is it on par with radeon 6950? 6970? 6990?
I dont understand why HP would go through ALL this trouble to release such a nice all in one machine but fail to make a consumer version with a nvida gtx or ati readeon graphic card and intel i5/i7 cpu. Instead this vast market is left untapped and handed to apple's imac on a silver platter.
Do not understand...

Hi,
The Z1 (AOI) appears to very proprietary in nature. It appears to be headed at a nitch market. I wuoldn't expect many if any consumer level electronics to plug into this box. Acutally it is really an excellent box for its intended use.
The Quadro 4000 is a professional grade video grade and your really can't make much of a comparison to a consumer level card. However, the consumer level cards are getting so powerfull that you might see the end of the professional grade cards at some point. You can review this QUADRO comparision chart. If memory bandwidth was the only measure then the ATI 69xx cards would be far superior to the 4000. Now the QUADRO 6000 with 6 GB on board would be able to handle a very large complex multiple layer 3D object. You can review how professional grade video cards stack up against consumer level cards here.
