I just got a new HP Phoenix Pavilion h9xt. I am adding a second optical drive and 2 hard drives from my old computer. The present configuration on the new computer has the hard drive in sata 1 and the present optical drive in sata 2. Should I connect the added hard drives in sata 2 and 3, and the optical drives in sata 4 and 5? This will be a none raid configuration, the added hard drives will be for storage. Thank you, John

Hi,
Is this HP HPE h9-1150t your PC?
There should not be any issues with adding two additional hard drives an one additional optical drive. The specifications indicate room for three hard drives and two optical drives. I can't say for certain how much pre-power wiring has been done but I suspect the power is there for the extra optical drive and a second hard drive. You might have to use a SATA Y power adapter for the third hard drive.
The two edge SATA connectors (1 and 2) are SATA III so I would use those for SATA III hard drives and place the optical hard drives on the SATA II ports (3-6). You might have to review your boot device order in the bios to make sure that it reflects your desires.
These HP 'how-to" articles should be helpful.
