cpu ugrade sr2173wm failing to recognize new cpu

1. sr2173vm

2. Windows 7 64

3. Upgraded CPU not being recognized

I am installing a new cpu from the original AMD Athlon 64 3500+ / 2.2 GHz  to Athlon 64 X2 5000+. When I replaced the chip the pc turned on but i could not even get to a screen. It turned on fine but it was like the video card was not recognized. I tried it through the hdmi and vga, my tv didnt even give me the option to go to vga which it does automatically when I plug it in normally. I checked and it said this chip is compatable with this motherboard. I flashed the bios and reset cmos, both a couple of times but still the same issue. I put the old processor in and it works fine, any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Here are the specs for your Compaq sr2173wm desktop computer. There are several versions of the 5000+ and unless you have the correct stepping, voltage, wattage, etc., the system will not work. Based on a little research and guessing, I would say these AMD Athlon X2 5000+ CPUs would be compatible with your system. Please note the AMD OPN and compare it with the 5000+ you currently have.

Re: cpu ugrade sr2173wm failing to recognize new cpu

Very interesting :smileyhappy: the opn on my chip is actually AD05000IAA5DS. I have replaced 50 cpu's and this is the first I have across this problem before. I have always tried to be careful to matching information but on the several specs pages I found nothing was mentioned about the opn specific number (of course until you showed me). I have contacted the seller of the chip to see if he has that opn, I will let you know how it goes. So you are saying I should not have a problem with either of those two correct? I appreciate the help.

Re: cpu ugrade sr2173wm failing to recognize new cpu

This is just an educated guess based on the information at hand and past experiences. If you still have the 3500+, you can reference that OPN to AMD's list... I would bet it is a 90nm SOI part and that is also what the two 5000+ parts I listed are.
