Csmithwork, welcome to the forum.
When requesting help, you should always include the make/model of the computer and/or monitor. This information is necessary for us to review the specifications of them.
In the meantime, try updating the drive for the card. Is the video card new?

That is right. Each hardware should be compatible to each other if you want it to work. A bit more information of your system might give us a hint.

It's a Dell XPS desktop. I've had it for a few years with no problem using a Samsung monitor. But I swapped the monitor out for a new 23" HP 2311x LED monitor. I downloaded the monitor driver from the disk that came with it. From the control panel I checked my nVidia gforce 8800 GT display adapter on the desktop and it showed a code 43 error. I clicked the update driver button and it said I had the latest driver. Just in case I went to the nVidia website and downloaded the driver from there to no effect. In lieu of that, it looked like the computer defaulted to a basic display adapter that only provided 640x.... screen resolution.
What I did next was to pull out the drivers disk that i got with my computer and i downloaded the other display drivers that the disk listed. Now I get the boot screen but nothing thereafter. Do I now have to replace the video card?
