Here is the link to your product page. Since you went from vista 32 to win7 32 you may be able to use the vista 32 drivers. Click software and driver downloads and choose the os to see what is available. I think you should verify first which os you are using though. I'm pretty sure Media Center pcs are designed to be 64 bit. To check, right click computer. Select properties and under the section that says system, next to the system type, it says what bit the operating system is. That is the value you need to choose from the dropdown in the link i shared with you.

Hi jackess,
It sounds like a software issue. Either you need to install the proper drivers or software, or you need to clear some settings that are causing issues.
Try the steps in this HP Support document on troubleshooting disc burning issues (particularly the step 4 Clearing the Registry Filters):

The OS is 32 bit. I followed your link and installed the indicated software to no avail. Device troubleshoot says there is a problem with ide controller driver, but the driver check says its up to date. When I put a good dvd in the drive it will not autoplay; when I pick play, it ejects the disc and tells me to insert a disc.........

I have already checked the registry and there are no filters-upper or lower.

Hmmm...when you go into Device Manager do you have any devices that have error symbols next to them? Also, what does the disc drive show under it?

Have you tried installing disc burning software like Nero or Cyberlink?

I have a laptop with win 7 and the disc burning software (dvd maker) works like a dream! I'm not convinced there isn't a problem with the drive, but don't kknow how to verivy it.

Does your Desktop have this software? Can you re-install it? Sometimes a disc drive will not be recognized by Windows as writeable until it registers it as one with the burning engine software. Installing disc burning software can help with this.

In device manager, the drive has a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. In hardware properties it says windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing (code 39).
My PC and my laptop (toshiba) both have windows dvd maker. I cannot identify specific software on my PC for disc burning-kind of a dummie I guess.
