fan speed problem

Dear
I have compaq prisario sr 5040 IL desktop PC when in working fan was frequently fast and some time slow . Didn't know what is problem can u give me solution.

Hello san143_2001, I checked the specifications for your system and it shows the system was released in 2007.
It is possible that the system has become dusty/dirty inside the case. If this happens, the system would increase the fan speed to try and overcome this additional heat, and when the system is cooled, the fan speed would be reduced.
I would suggest disconnecting the power cord, remove the case panel and clean the inside of the case, paying particular attention to the processor heatsink/fan assembly.
You may want to acquire some canned compressed air and blow the dust/dirt from the heatsink/fan assembly to insure all the dust/dirt is completely removed from the heatsink/fan assembly, and all the case fans.
You need to make sure you keep the fan blades from truning as you remove the dust/dirt from them, since they can spin at greater speeds with the compressed air, than they were designed to spin. This additional rpm can damage the fans.
