graphics card

Hi Guys,

I need some advice regarding installing a Graphics card for my Desktop.

I have a HP6040in Desktop with has a E7400 intel board , 3 GB RAM,500GB HDD ,Core 2 duo 2.2.

This desktop has a PSU of 250 Watts , which I assume is not enough for a graphics card. Hence I have the below  questions:

1) if I upgrade my PSU to 450 watts , will the other components inside burn out?

2) can you please suggest a value  for Money 1GB graphics card? Have mentioned a few below.

-Zotac NVIDIA GeForce GT210 1 GB DDR3 Graphics Card Galaxy

-NVIDIA GeForce 210 1 GB DDR3 Graphics Card

-Asus AMD/ATI Radeon HD 5450 1 GB DDR3 Graphics Card

3) if you see the last one Asus, It says AMD/ATI , will this work on a intel PC

I appreciate if anyone could help me on this...

Re: graphics card

Upgrading your power supply wont burn out your computer.

If you want a good value gaming video card i would suggest an AMD Radeon HD 6850.

If your not gaming then i suggest getting a NVIDIA Geforce 210, and saving money by buying a 350watt power supply.

[ Edited ]

No the Geforce 210 has a slow memory bus, its only 64-bit, Those games would lag like crazy on that card, even on the lowest settings. The Radeon HD 6850 has a 256-bit memory bus, and can load textures much faster in and out of memory. Also the Geforce 210 has GDDR3 memory, as compared to the Radeon HD 6850 with GDDR5.

The Geforce 210 is mainly designed for watching HD videos. Not for playing games on.

Re: graphics card

Thanks a lot Matt.

Can I comprimise on the memory size and go for a 512 mb graphics card with a 256-Bit memory interface instead of a 1 GB  Graphics card with 64 Bit Memory interface .

Will this suit my purpose(GTA IV and FIFA12).

I have found a few below:

Re: graphics card

those will do. they will run your games on medium/high settings. they will eat all 512mb up very quickly. i know GTAIV will run on almost high settings, with view distance turned down.
