high speed usb

I have a HP Pavilion Elite 377a and have been unable to identify which of the USB ports are high speed. Is there a diagram somewhere I can refer to. I note this question has been asked for other models however I could not locate the specific high speed ports for this one.

Thanks

Hi,

The USB port on the motherboard in your PC are USB 2.0.  Go into Device Manager and find the Universal Serial Bus Controllers.  Open up one of the hubs and you should find it operating in High Speed.  A hub might down shift to a lower speed if a USB 1.x device is inserted into a port on that particular hub.

Re: high speed usb

Thanks very much

I am therefore puzzled by the message I get when I turn my printer on that this USB device can perform faster if connected to a USB 2 port. It would seem all the ports are USB 2 although I am not absolutely sure which port the printer is connected to. I believe it is connected via a USB composite device.

Are you able to clarify please?

Thanks

Chris

Re: high speed usb

Hi,

Your PC is fairly new so all of the ports should be USB 2.0.  Move the printer cable to different hub ports and see if the message continues. Other USB devices may be causing this issue.

Thanks again for the clarification

I did try different ports for the printer cable with no change however I realized I was using the cable from a separate USB hub into which there a couple of printer cables (this had been a system used with an earlier computyer with fewer UB ports). When I removed the hub and put the printer cables directly into this PC all was well.

Clearly the hub itslef was running at a slower speed. Problem solved.
