My computer is a Pavilion h8xt. I have ran the diagnostics and am told everything is operating normally.
I uninstalled the drive and let it reinstall on reboot, no help.
I have uninstalled several programs to include Roxio creator. Still no help.
I have did the trouble shooting steps found in their documents, to no avail.
Did the deal of uinstalling the driver and then reinstalling it.
I am rebooting after each step.
My greatest sin at the moment is that I still have iTunes installed. If I have to delete that I would just as soon send the whole mess back to HP. I have spent a lot of time getting my tunes transferred over and in the right directives.
I just got the computer. I don't remember using it this drive.
And all my restore points have failed, but that's a topic for another board.
Would appreciate any and all responses.

If you have inserted a number of prerecorded CD, DVD, and Bluray discs and the machine will not read them, I can only assume that the drive is defective. Back in July, I purchased a Gateway laptop and when I tried to create the recovery discs it would acknowledge that a blank disc was inserted. After that, I inserted an assortment of prerecorded discs and nothing worked. Turned out that the CD/DVD-RW drive was bad from the get go.
SO, the lesson is, even a brand new computer might have a defect or two. Contact HP and send it back or have HP send a new BDDVDRW drive that you can swap.

Yes, tried many different disks, have been completely through their check lists and nothing has helped. I had to replace cd drives before but never on a machine a week old. The thing I dread most is that long call to India. Thanks for your comments.
