I believe your A8M2N-LA motherboard has PCI-E 1.1 slot.  PCI-E 2.0 cards are  'generally' backward compatible with PCIe 1.x motherboards.. but not always successfull.

Have you installed the card and it is not working? Which card did you get? What are the power supply requirements?

Re: hp pavilion media center a1610n pci slot?

Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion Media Center a1610n Desktop Computer and its A8M2N-LA (NodusM3) Motherboard. According to the specs, your system was introduced on 04-Aug-2006 and has a PCIe x16 slot for a graphics card. Based on this information, I would guess that it has a PCIe v1.1 slot. This should be compatible with most PCIe v2.0 cards but will have issues with PCIe v2.1 and newer cards. One other item to consider is the power supply in your computer. Many, if not most, HP consumer computers of this era came with 250 watt power supplies and the vast majority of PCIe x16 graphics cards require a minimum system power supply rating of 300 watt or greater.
