with XP OS has a PCIEx16 video slot and 3 PCI slots, and a 350W PSU.
1) It also has a VGA monitor output, so your present monitor has VGA input. Any new video card must have an output your monitor will accept.
2) The power requirements of the new card will also require a new PSU.
3) The required plugs on the card must match the minimums of the PSU.
4) Standard install was 1GB of RAM. You will need 2 GB.
What level of gaming? You only have a 2Ghz processor.
What is your price range?
Let's consider World of Warcraft requirements:http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=
As you will note if will run under XP, and does not require a hefty video card to a minimum level.
About the memory. Here is a source:http://www.4allmemory.com/memory/compaq-hp-media-c
HP probably installled two 512MB ram modules. IMHO, you can add the 2GB kit (two 1GB as a max).
If you upgrade, you might consider a video card and PSU on the higher end, that you can take with you if you ever purchase a newer computer. But under no circumstance buy a SLIMLINE.
