I have a HP Pavilion a6640d Desktop PC bought last year, it comes with E2200 Dual core. I have read that a E5800 come out on the last quarter of 2010... I was thinking of upgrading my CPU for a better performance i guess... Is that compatible???
Thank you

Hi,
Your desktop PC will accept the following higher rated processors as upgrades:
Core 2 Duo E7xxx (Wolfdale-M) and Core 2 DuoE4x00 (Conroe)
Core 2 Duo E5xx series processors you asked about are not listed as guaranteed compatible and have no BIOS support. Installing either of these processors is a gamble ($$). You are very likely to get the BIOS error message that says "Incompatible processor installed"
Best regards,
erico

Can I quote from what iFalk posted below. His PC is running the same MB. If according to your answer, his PC should not work from the word go! (E5200 is not in the supported processor list). Depending on what's available in the market, I just want to upgrade my E2160 to maybe E5700 or E6600. I'm just worried on BIOS support. Please help!
