lack of support does affect buying decisions

well, hp, our latest computer is an hp.

but boy you made that a difficult decision.

you refused to support our HP printer under windows 7.

you refused to support our HP scanner under windows 7.

so, yes, our latest computer is an hp.  but you made that difficult to decide.

we now have a Canon fax.

and a Brother printer.

hmmm... i wonder what you'll refuse to support when windows 8 comes out.

Re: lack of support does affect buying decisions

It is difficult to judge your opinion, as you did not offer any model numbers on the HP Printer or Scanner.

Let's be logical. Did you try to locate "Alternate Drivers" within HP?

I own an HP Deskjet 6122, circa 10/2002. CD XP OS, Parallel/USB2.0 with duplexer. Cost $10 fleamarket in 2009.

Here is a link  http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF06a/18972-236251-236261-14438-f51-88749.html

and an HP deskjet F4135 AIO at $50 new, circa 2008.

Both work with Vista, and there are Win7 drivers available. I plan on getting another HP6122 soon. I really enjoy it's ink cost ratio compared to the F4135, based on 1000 sheets printed.

Please reply back with the model numbers. If HP can support the HP6122 for 9 years, I fail to see your opinion as valid, based on the limited information your supplied.  It's easy to complain, but it's better to ask for help on the forums. Most of us are HP users, and are here to help other users by choice. These forum responders, for the most part,  are NOT employee's of HP.

Re: lack of support does affect buying decisions

From my experience I have actually found HP to be good at providing support for getting older printers to work with Windows 7.  I have an 10 year old or so hp 632c inkjet that still works.  Although they don't provide official support for it under Vista/Windows 7, I shot them an e-mail and they had me use a driver meant for a different series of printers and it worked.

On a side note, you gotta love the old printers like the hp 632c that let you print until the ink completely runs out :smileyhappy:.  I had to purchase a chip resetter for my Epson printer to do the same thing.
