You're not the only one that feels that way.
You can blame this on HPs newest CEO Leo Apotheker, this is his doing.
While the PC business isn't outragously profitable it IS still profitable and it makes HP very visible to the world at large.
Like others said the enterprise businesses do use the consumer grade HP PCs in networks that are matched and tested with HP enterprise servers and the like, so before a company had a one stop shop while now they will have to pick and choose, it will lose HP business contracts as well as consumer buyers .
The most disgraceful thing is the way HP went about telling the customers that they were leaving the PC market (they call their PC division Personal Services Group. )
Poorly executed, the entire plan. Not to mention the WebOS debacle!
HP was founded on hardware and it is what made it the huge success it has become over the years.
If they discard that legacy they are doomed.
I would bet that Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard are rolling in their graves just about now.
I lost a LOT of respect for HP with this debacle. The CEO and his executive officers need to resign.
