problem upgrading new power supply

iam upgrading my 250 watt power supply(which is working) to a 600 watt power supply.i installed it and it doesnt work.i had my grandson install in his pc and it worked fine. i have a hp pavilion a305w with a trigem glendale motherboard .any info would be appreciated   tks
