Hi,
The AMD 9600 would be the top of the quad cores for the AM2+ 95 watt socket in your PC per the HP specification. Review the motherboard specifications for your PC.
AMD processors on this list such as the 9750 should work in theory. Know what the return policy is before you buy.

My motherboard spec say:
Socket type: AM2+
- Phenom with Quad Core (Agena) technology (AM2+) up to 9600 (up to 95 watt TDP)
- Athlon64 X2 with Dual Core technology up to 5600+ (up to 89 watt TDP)
- Athlon64 less than 4000+
- Sempron less than 3800+
I thought I could not support chips like 9750, what about amd phenom x4 9950? It says "up to 9600," is that just limited by the power supply or the motherboard itself?

Hi,
The AMD 9950 requires a motherboard socket that is rated for 125 watts. The socket on your motherboard is only rated for 95 watts. This has nothing to with the size of the power supply.
