(forgot to add this reply days back) I dont know all about you but my buttons started working again. Within a couple days after posting this even though they been "broken" for a week and a half; they just started working with no issues. The only thing I can remember doing before it worked again is giving my HDD a good defrag and cleaning a LOT of junk off my computer.
Dont know if that was related but thats all I could remember doing before they started working again.

hello. I have a dv7-1285dx and I have the same problem. The quicklaunch touch pad wont work. None of the buttons work. Its curious how this problem is appearing to many users almost at the same time. I don't know what to do to solve this problem
none of my "buttons" respond to touch...
is there a solution to this?
help please.
I'll leave this email if you'd like to contact me. I 'd appreciate your help =)

If you are still having troubles with the buttons try updating the BIOS first and then install the latest version of the Quick Launch Button software.

Hi.
I've dv7-1261wm laptop and sometimes I've the mentioned problem. In another forum I found an issue to check and when I did it, I got good results. Only you've to turn off laptop, remove battery and turn on system again (with power cord but without battery). You'll see everything will be working OK. After that, you can put battery again (doing same cycle) and problem will fix temporaly (because after a couple of reboot cycles you'll see the problem again)
Don't forget that the problem will coming back, you won't know when. I think it's a BIOS bug or something, but It's a good and simple tip to apply
Regards

I had a similar situation recently. None of my hot buttons would work. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling my Quick Launch Buttons, HP bundled software, ie. Wireless Assistant, and even uninstalled the keyboard. None of this worked. I then just happened to open my laptop internal section, and found a loose wire. Moved it back into position, and everything now works, and have not had a problem since. Anyone experiencing this problem should check any cables inside their laptop and make sure they are secured. The specific cable I had a problem with was one cable on the Wireless Card.
