Hi,
Please post the HP product number for your server.
If your server has a standard ATX PSU then it's possible.
You should open up your server and measure the physical dimensions of your power supply. Here is a list of things to consider:
1. Specifications
2. Total wattage - important
3. 12+ volt amperage rating - important
4. Modular - not mandatory but I like the flexibility
5. Warranty
6. i7 and SLI ready
7. Efficiency rating
8. Cost
9. Physical size -- standard ATX PSU is 5.5" by 5.9" by 3.4" give or take a few tenths
10. A single 12+ volt rail is a better choice.
HP might even stock a bigger power supply.
Please post the PSU dimensions and the type and number of power correctors. HP has a tendency to use proprietary PSUs in some servers and PC's.

Thanks Big_Dave,
My ML330 G3 currently has the following components:
- Power Supply Unit of 330w ATX-2 (24 pin) (this PSU brought out smoke two days ago, thus I figured out there is much wattage requirement than 300w can provide).
- Power Supply Unit dimensions I do not know yet, will measure when I get indoors
- Smart RAID Controller 6400 256mb BBWC
- 5 x 72 GB scsi drives
- 1 X CD / DVD drive
- 2 x 3.06Ghz CPUs
- 2 x 1GB/s NICs
- 2 x 2GB memory and 2 x 512 MB memory
- FREENAS - Network Attached Storage OS
Future additions / capacity
- 5 x 72 GB scsi drive
- 1 x 6400 Smart Array RAID card
- Give or take any other component such USBs I might have missed out.
I need PSU brand types, I heard of Corsair 600w ATX2 PSU or 700w / 800w, Does HP do larger compatible wattages with ML 330 G3 power supply units ?
Thanks Dave for your help..

Hi,
The HP configurator for the ML 330 servers at the HP Store shows a 460 watt and a 750 watt (redundant) power supply. One of those PSUs might work. The 460 might be you best choice if it fits.
A non-HP PSU is a possibility depending on what you find out with the dimensions and power connectors.

Thanks Big_Dave, I will give this a try after a purchase.
I don't suppose you have the url link to the HP store for the PSU 460 wattage or 750 wattages by any chance please ?
Thanks for your candid help.....

Hi,
Try this link. The customize and buy also shows the optional power supplies.
The 750 watt PSU is listed as redundant. This might mean a dual 375 watt PSUs. I can't really image it as being a dual 750 watt PSU.

Thanks Big_Dave.
The url link provided refered me to G6 of ML330. Is the power supply unit compatible with G3 of ML 330 ? I think it should be ok however just like to confirm, after considering the connector and dimensions as you've mentioned ?
Thanks for the link...

Hi,
Yes I know the model numbers are different but once your post the number and type of power connectors for the existing PSU then there will be more information. You might need to contact HP Partsurfer and ask for PSU techncial assistance. I suspect that the PSU in your server is a proprietary PSU.
BTW, how do you plan on using 5 hard drives in a cabinet that was only designed for 3?

Thanks Big_Dave,
Yeah, good question about three bay for 5bay. The floppy disk size are big enough to house 3.5 scsi drives. The smar array 6400 scsi card is a 2 channel VHDC interface / 2 internal 68 pin female connector that can take up to up to 28 scsi drives.
I have ordered a Corsair 750w PSU, this will arrive tomorrow 03 / 13 / 2012, Wish me luck. I'll get back to you after I have monitored the performance or maybe, worse....
