unable to boot, message "Boot selection failed..." after installing W7

Unable to boot, error message "Boot selection failed..." after
installing Win 7 on new SSD to replace HDD

Installed a Crucial M4 512MB 2.5 SSD to replace the HDD that came with
new HP Pavillion H8-1380t. installed Win 7 to the SSD, however, when
booting i get the message "The boot selection failed because a required
device is inaccessible.".

.... and then the machine will not boot. How can i fix this?

Yes i have tried all obvious things;
* check/swap sata cables
* change SATA mode in CMOS
* ensure SSD is set as first boot device
* SSD is visisble in CMOS
* Removed CDRom and old HDD from sata plugs
* Tried copying Win 7 Home Premium (OEM) over to SSD using Macrium,
the disk (including two partitions) copy over fine to the SSD, however
i still get the error as described above
* Tried installing Windows 7 Ultimate (full retail) by booting from
CDRom, after installation to the SSD, the error still happens as above
(exloring the SSD suggests that all the windows files are there)

Hello hpe-h81380t,

Do you still have the HDD, if so if you have that drive in the computer does it boot fine? Do you get the error if the HDD is the primary and the SSD is the slave drive or does the issue only happen when the SSD is set to primary?

The main thing I'm wanting to find out is if the computer fails to boot anytime the SSD is connected, but boots fine every time the SSD is not connected.
