upgrade mobo

This may not be the correct place in the forum to ask this. If so please direct me to correct area. I'm ugrading my motherboard on my desktop, p6320y. I'll have to buy another OS but I'm not real sure how to install it after everything is installed. Do I just put the disk in the drive and follow directions or is there another way? Thanks.

Re: upgrade mobo

Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion p6320y Desktop Computer. Please be aware that you will need a micro-ATX (9.6" x 9.6") motherboard to replace the existing m/b. Also, you may have issues with the rear i/o plate and the mounting stand-offs in the case not matching your new m/b. As you already know, your factory OS installation and HP Recovery partition or discs will no longer function.

As far as installing a new OS... just place the CD/DVD in the drive and boot. You may be prompted to "press any key to boot from CD/DVD". When selecting which partition to install to, you may wish to format both existing partition or make one partition. After that... just follow the prompts. Hopefully you went with Window 7 for your replacement OS.

Re: upgrade mobo

Thanks for the reply Frank. The motherboard I'm using is one recommended by Big Dave from another post. It's the same size as the board I have now. Hopefully most of the old components, memory etc., will swap out to the new one. I'm thinking about getting another hard drive too. The one I have now is a 5400 rpm. I believe I'll go with a 7200. Thanks again and I hope I can ask more questions should I run into problems.
