upgraded graphics card

I have just upgraded my graphics card in my compaq Presario SR2013WM from a Nvidia GeForce 7300 to a nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+ OC 512mb GDDR3. Now when you go to do things on the computer the mouse cursor disappears, in game the screen freezes and graphics change. I have done all Windows updates and BIOS. Uninstalled and reinstalled a number of times and even switched with exact card from similar ( Same model ) computer. Both cards work in the other computer but not in this particular computer. What am I missing to make it work??

Re: upgraded graphics card

Remove all the old video driver(s).  Download the latest video driver from the Nvidia website.  Some cards require the attachment of the 6/8 pin power connector to provide a more stable load current.  If you don't have the right connector, then upgrade the PSU ($30 sale with free shipping).

Re: upgraded graphics card

If you've already removed/reloaded the video driver, then there is some sort of corruption with windows.  Trying system restore (oldest date) may help.  Don't think you'll be able to fix this problem without having an expert on site to clean the registry, etc....  Best strategy is to turn off all startup up programs in MSCONFIG's startup tab and remove/reload the latest NVIDIA driver.  If no joy, then wipe the hard drive and reload windows.

Re: upgraded graphics card

newest nvidia drivers are a little touchy.  Try 178.24.

Re: upgraded graphics card

computer has never been able to Restore , I don't know why. I am trying to not have to recover because some key codes are lost . But will keep that in mind for the very near future. Thanks
