wake on lan fails

I can't get WOL, Wake On Lan to work on my Pavilion a1020n even though I have set it up in BIOS.  Any ideas?

 

Maybe WOL is not supposed to work on this system?

 

With the system plugged into power and a LAN cable attached, the leds at the LAN port do not come on so it seems as the LAN adapter is not being powered.  Once powered up the system will connect to the network OK, so I know the ethernet adapter is good.  It just won't WOL from a magic packet.

Make sure the computer is asleep or hibernating.  If it is powered down WOL will not fuction.
