I am still running WinXP on this workhorse Presario SR1750NX PC, and recently decided to look into upgrading the RAM from the original 1 Gig (2 x 512 DIMMS) to 4 Gig, with the complete understanding that due to WinXP's limitations, I would only be able to use ~3.5 Gig of it.
I purchased 4 x 1 Gig PC3200 DDR 400 MHz Non ECC LD DIMMs (all identical), removed the old DIMMS, and installed all 4 new DIMMs. Powering up the unit, the fans all seem to run at high speed, the HDD light stays on permanently, and a soft beep sounds every 5 seconds or so.
Removing 2 of the DIMMs in the extended slots alleviates this and allows the PC to boot, and successfully recognize the new RAM. I have switched out the DIMMs in all possible combinations, so I know they are all functional, but so far have been unable to use ALL of them together. Any suggestions on how one might resolve this will be greatly appreciated!

I neglected to mention that updating the BIOS was of absolutely no help in resolving this.
