I also posted this on in the "hardware" section, where I got 31 views but no replies, so I thought I would try here. If more information is needed from me, please let me know. I purchased the new hard drive because the original "solution" to my problems was that the old drive was defective. Thanks!!
I purchased a new hard drive, installed it, and went through all the system recovery steps. The computer seemed to be working once restored, but then not long into my setting everything up, it froze and I had to restart. It has never stayed on for more than 10 minutes at a time since then, and just this last time I even got a message similar to my original problem - "BOOTMGR image is corrupt. The system cannot boot."
In addition, it seems that the longer it sits unused, the longer it stays on next time it's tried to use. Also, it freezes up in different ways, either going completely black, random speckled colors on the screen, or just freezing with the last view still there but nothing working.
Any ideas before I need to bring this thing in?
