there is no place for running tests. i hit f10 at startup and it's the factory default thing that restores my computer...and are you shure that it is software? cause i think it is a hardware problem. i have read my minidumps and they all say it is caused by hal.dll anyone have any susgestions? i really need this fixed. thank you
I suspect it is hardware, also, which is why I wanted you to run diagnostics. If you go into the BIOS setup, there might be some hardware diagnostics (at least for the disk) in there.

Computer randomly restarts is not something unique happened to you.Sometimes there is a dreadful total crash of the system and sometime it sends ddifferent errors, upon restarting nothing happens.
-- First of all disable the auto-restart option from your control panel settings
-- Remove any recently installed maliciously software/add-on or any other application or toolbar.
-- Try to cool down your PC as the overheating due to overuse of computer may result in system freezing and sudden restarting.
-- Update the drivers
-- Make it sure the error is not caused by the deficient power supply. You may try to change the power supply.
-- Conduct the registry clean up scan for quick fix of the problem.
-- Remove flashy games and/or untrusted antiviruses/antispywares. Conduct the security scan through the most powerful scanners only.
If you have already been experiencing the computer automatic restart and shutdown problem then read this article Computer randomly restarts

Through several months of observation I got one case when did HP P6000 Series Restarts Randomly. its the problem with the VGA and since there are no crash down reports it is hard to trace. I kept my PC on for 5 days and it did not restart even a single time, what I did was:
- Disabled the card reader from bios
- Disabled some USB Ports that I dont use
- Minimized all applications which has animations or uses the VGA
My PC did not restart randomly, I tried the same thing but except I left it on with some online game running not minimized it did restart after couple of hours sometimes munites. Then tried running the same online game but this time I minimized it... well it never restarted for several days. See my PC Specs on DxDiag if we have the same: http://www.mediafire.com/?s69ffkkhnalnhsw

Is this the error that you are receiving? "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
Please re-install a copy of the above file."

Like I mentioned there are not a single crash report. Even memory dumps are empty. This becomes a real headache at first since you dont have a single hint what causes the random restart.
Through observation and trial and error that I came up with this justification. Actual scenario that makes it happen.
