Problem: The computer will not boot past the bios screen.
Details: When you power on the computer, the compaq logo shows up and has the <F1 Setup> and <F10 System Recovery> options listed as well. And this is about as far as the computer gets. After this the whole computer is just locked up, no buttons work on the keyboard no lights come on the keyboard. I have tried removing RAM, expansion cards, etc, I have reset the CMOS on the MB, I have removed the CMOS battery and held the power button in and then rebooted and still no good.
Any ideas on what to do next?
Thanks

Are you getting a 'keyboard not found' error? Is it a USB keyboard or a PS/2 keyboard? USB keyboards generally won't
work in a pre-boot eviroment unless 'USB Legacy Support' is enabled in the BIOS.

It's possible your PS/2 port is bad. Were any of the 3 other keyboards you tried USB keyboards? If not, try a USB keyboard.
Or try a PS/2 to USB adaptor (not all keyboards can use these adaptors). Do the three lights on the upper right of the keyboards briefly blink once during bootup?

First step is: Reseat your memory modules and then try to start up your system.
Second step if still won't get past the logo: clear the CMOS (Clear the BIOS).
The following are generic procedures for virtually any motherboard.
Unplug the power cord.Open the case. Remove the CMOS battery and then place the clear CMOS jumper to the clear position. The Clear CMOS header has three pins and is always near the silver CMOS battery (almost always a CR2032). The position you will find the jumper in is the default (normally 1-2) put the jumper to 2-3 ,then wait a couple of minutes. Press the power or reset button once while you are waiting. That will ensure any residual current is bled off. After you have waited patiently (it isn't easy) place the jumper back to default (1-2) position and reinstall the CMOS battery. Now close the case and plug in the power cord and attempt a start. If it starts and lets you get into BIOS you will have to set the date and time.
If it still won't get past the Logo screen then remove one memory module and try it again. If it doesn't work then try the other module.

Conception of the same Problem:
I had a usb mouse plugged in the front pannel USB port. I took out the mouse and plgged in another usb connected to RIM Playbook to charge it (from the twin USB ports, one of the ports is damaged). My computer I think went to sleep, or restarted, but the I found the computer hung on the HP Logo screen.
Now I can't even enter the BIOS setting, my keyboards functions and I can see the message on the screen stating 'starting setup' or whichever function key I pressed, but it would not go any further.
Except from plugging in a ps/2 mouse, I have tried all the above recommended procedures, sadly to no avail.
I am going to try setting each memory module and perform clearing CMOS. It is odd how this problem just showed up, and I can only pin point it to the palybook being plugged-in in replacement of the mouse, and then BIOS setting being effected on the reboot. (or something).
If there is any solution please share. It would be much appreciated.
