I am not sure if this is the correct forum or not. But I have a P6157c running Vista. When I boot up I get the HP Invent screen with the 3PF keys and ESC options, it then flashes that the Bios is starting up and the message appears with the version number and Detecting Storage Devices ... and hangs. After reading several forums I tried reseating the cables, memory and PCI cards, clearing CMOS but nothing works. I can get into the Bios Setup sometime but neither is the DVD/CD nor the HD (Seagate 7200.11 750GB) are being found. I tried plugging the HD into another HP (M9340f) and it recognizes the HD but since it's an INtel machine versus an AMD machine it doesn't boot. It automatically asks if you want to do a system repair but after about 30 minutes it completes but still won't boot off the drive. I tried another HD in the P6157C but it still doesn't recognize the HD as being installed. Any suggestions as to what maybe going on and how to fix it?

Hello Bobgee, When this error occurs, the BIOS is not detecting a bootable device to boot the system from.
I would first enter the BIOS and see if the CD\DVD drive and the hard drive are being recognized by the BIOS.
If they are, check the boot sequence, and select the first boot device to be the CD\DVD drive and the second boot device to be the hard drive.
Save these settings and reboot the system and see if it can locate a bootable device.
You might also try connecting the hard drive to another available Sata port.

The BIOS doesn't recognize either device and switching to anoher SATA port doesn't work. THe SATA Controller is configred for RAID so I was wondering if I changed that if it would recognize the DVD and HDD.

Hello Bobgee, Raid is set by default by the BIOS, but you can change it to ATA and see of it makes any difference. It should not do any damage with this setting.
If you can manage to enter the BIOS, set the Drives setting to ATA, save these settings and reboot. This may or may not work. It is beginning to look as though the motherboard may have failed.
