Re: Elite e9150t Feezes/Locks up

When HP replaced my MB over a year ago, they used the older rev. 1.03 which is now proving to be defective once again.

Would they still replace it free of charge with the now "new and improved" stable version 1.04 MB?

Maybe because I already had a warranty repair is why I never received a notice from them about the class action lawsuit?

Can anyone confirm that HP would still replace a defective ver. 1.03 MB even if they already replaced it once before?

Hello rgrele, I would contact the Settlement Administrator at this Link , and pose this question to them. You can send them an email that is provided in the Linked page.

Just off hand, I would think the motherboard would be replaced under the Recall, but I don't make those decisions.

The Settlement Administrator may be able to advise you.

Hi rgrele,

Hans has given you some good advice.

If you get your motherboard replaced then you should verify the motherboard version level and bios level using the HP Support Assistant or PC Wizard.  Bios level 5.29 is the latest and motherboard revision level 1.04E01 seems to be the most stable.

You might try disabling the 1394 port in the bios and see if the stabilizes your PC.

Re: Elite e9150t Feezes/Locks up

Thanks to Hans and Dave. :smileyhappy:

I have done as you suggested and sent an e-mail. Will have to wait and see what happens.

However, I do not understand why I was not contacted by HP before the expiration date of the 90 day claim period. I hope this does not make me ineligible for a free replacement MB.

Hello rgrele, Unless you paid to have the motherboard replaced, the deadline has not expired as yet. Only for those customers that paid out of pocket to have their defective motherboards replaced, the deadline has expired to get reimbursed by HP for these out of pocket expenses.

If you do not receive an email on or before Dec. 9, 2011, you should contact the Settlement Administrator, or HP.

Look for the Announcement on the HP web site for the announcement of the motherboard replacement in the next few weeks.

Re: Elite e9150t Feezes/Locks up

-----------------

but you would need to purchase another operating system as well. With this in mind, it could become a little expensive to purchase the Retail motherboard and a new copy of the operating system.

---------------

Good point, but I installed a purchased copy of Windows 7, so I would need to de-activate it and I could then reinstall it in a new machine.

Same would be required with all my Adobe and MS Office suites.

-------------

The Pegatron Brand motherboards in these systems are a subsidiary company of Asus.

------------

It is a pity that a well respected brand like ASUS would release a line of low cost and low quality hardware.  Relying on their reputation, I would still purchase the higher-end ASUS MOBO but I would stay away from the Pegatron.

At any rate, I will probably not upgrade until the new Intel Tri-Gate chips are realeased later in 2012.  They are supposed to offer a 37% performace increase at 50% lower power consumption for the CPU. (Search for "3D transistor" or Tri-Gate")

Re: Elite e9150t Feezes/Locks up

Hi PDXPat. In my case HP sent me the motherboard, so I didn't have to return the computer to them. I was going to replace the motherboard myself, but was so feed up with the computer and HP that I went to my local computer store. They replaced the motherboard for $40. By the way, I got a quote from the Greek Squard at Best Buy. They wanted $200 to replace the motherboard!

Here's an important idea. I have a second hard disk drive in my tower. So, I Cloned the C drive to this HDD. After the new motherboard was installed, the C drive was cloned from the second drive. This returned the C drive to the state that it was in prior to replacing the motherboard. However, after saying all that, I don't think that replacing the motherboard should required reinstalling anything. The C drive should not be affected by changing the motherboard.

By the way, the new motherboard seems to have fixed the problems. However, I'm still keeping my "fingers crossed".

Goodluck in resolving your problems.

One last thing, there's no way that I will buy another computer from HP. The way they have handled these problems is totally unacceptable.

Hello SolFried, I know of no way to de-activate any Microsoft product. You can, and should de-activate Adobe products.

If you have a Retail version of a Microsoft product, and it is installed on another system, you can "uninstall" it from the original system and reinstall it on another system, but you would need to manualy use the telephone method or call Microsoft and explain that you changed the motherboard because it failed and need to reactivate Windows and/or Microsoft Office to get the Retail versions reactivated.

A few years ago, ASUS was the best motherboard you could purchase Retail, (personal opinion), but in recent years even ASUS Quality Control has slipped drastically. ASUS support never was that great. I've purchased many of their boards over the years, and they failed at about the same rate as some of the other Name Brand boards.

Larry10k makes a very good point about cloning the hard drive. On these failed motherboards, this may not be the best approach, since many times the software has become corrupted due to the malfuntioning of the failed motherboard, and a hard drive image would only make an image of a corrupted operating system and other applications.

Once I know I have a stable system, I do use an hard drive image for backup purposes, and this works well for me.

Re: Elite e9150t Feezes/Locks up

I purchased this system on 2/20/10 from ubid.  It has been nothing but trouble from random crashes, slow hd performance, and disappearing ethernet cards.

I just found this thread and saw the information about the recall.  I have not had anything replaced (outside of the video card I put in myself).  Am I eligiable for the recall?

Thanks!
