Even if I exchange it, I risk the chance of getting an even more defective unit. My 9180t freezes every 2-3 days and has only had the BSOD 3-4 times or so. I guess that is really good considering many people have their machines lock up after just a few hours of use.
Is random hangs/BSODs what most people experience here? I personally don't. I'm 2.5 months in now, heavily using my PC on a daily basis, and the PC is rock solid for days, as long as I reboot the machine after a cool boot. If I don't do this, the PC hangs/BSODs within 30 minutes (50-75% of the time). Otherwise, my 9150t is actually more stable than my work PCs, since I've yet to see a failure following a reboot-after-cold-boot in over 75 days.
Sounds like there are multiple issues here, and even if HP resolves one, it doesn't mean it all of them will be resolved.
ALL -> When reporting this issue, please make sure to tell us when your hangs/BSODs are happening from your last boot and if you used/tried the reboot-after-cold-boot workaround. Otherwise, it's very confusing. Thank you.

I have had no freezes/BSOD since doing cold/warm reboot 1 week ago. This is definitely a change. Another thing has happened - Microsoft downloaded and installed updated drivers for USB printer HUBS about this same time. I had been getting printer errors. Could be multifactorial. I have a 9180t.

So, I just ordered one of these PCs three days ago, and I'm already regretting it. It figures that I found out about all of this after I ordered, but I didn't think to look because I can't believe a company would ship a product with this many apparent issues. I have a few questions:
1. Is there anyone not having problems with these PCs, and if so, what is the ratio of faulty to not faulty computers?
2. Since my previous computer just died, (a Dell laptop which was used every day for 7 years without issue), I need this NOW. I don't have time to be sending computers back and forth waiting for something to work. Can I buy an LGA 1366 motherboard and just swap it in? If I can, with this fix the problems?

Based on the experiences of others, I'd send it back unopened on the first UPS truck you can flag down and demand a refund!
There are a lot of other good, solid 9000-series HP's available (both new and used) for very attractive prices. While they may not equal the Core i7 performance, do you really need that? After many years as a satisfied Dell customer I decided to switch to HP for my next PC technology upgrade, in part because a family member now works for another division of HP. When I began shopping and reading user reviews and blogs I was aghast at the huge number of complaints about HP 9000-series desktop PC's freezing up or exhibiting what is commonly called the "blue screen of death." There are legions of cases described in internet blogs by owners of new HP desktop PC's who have been unable to obtain resolution of problems that make their machines totally unusable. Many have sent them back to HP for repair or replacement multiple times, after prolonged and unsuccessful efforts with your tech support.
HP's sterling reputation as a preferred provider of high quality personal computers has been greatly damaged. Further, there appear to be multiple causes for the problems, as no common thread has yet been found. As a prospective new buyer likely to purchase a high-end desktop or laptop about once a year, I have concluded the HP 9000 series is presently a very unwise choice, so I must look elsewhere.
I urge you to devote whatever resources it takes to fix the current problems and restore confidence in HP personal computers. Your company needs to be proactive and do whatever is necessary to make the unreliable PC's now in the field operate satisfactorily. You don't have much time to turn this around before an entire generation of tech-savvy buyers…those who buy performance computers…turn away from HP.

My e9180f only freezes if I don't do the warm boot after a cold start, there are no BSOD's. But this is still not acceptable, we should be able to shut down our computers at night and not have to do 2 boots to get the system to be stable after it's been off over night.

3rd the motion. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate RTM. Same BSOD problems.
Though it works well after a restart.

I agree. I automate several processes, including backup, defraging the hard drive, and virus scanning, that are scheduled to take place overnight. I need, and have a right to know that these tasks are completed properly. I don't need a new computer that locks up during any one of these tasks.
I am now using my 3rd defective system. They all have had the same predictable problem. If the system has been shutdown or placed in sleep mode long enough to cool down, the system either locks up or has a BSoD within about an hour after startup.

I think there are 2 or 3 who have posted that actually have systems that do not exhibit any problem so far.
One sad thought: It is obvious that HP has made a conscious decision to continue selling and replacing what they must know by now are defective systems rather than suspending sales until they fix the problem.

I have had e9180t for 3 weeks now. Except for one occurance of keyboard/mouse becoming unresponsive, I have not had any issues with the machine. I am not sure what sorts of operations I should try in order to reproduce freezes/hangs/BSODS. I usually have multiple IE windows open, windows explorer and iTunes. I have yet to use the DVD drive. I am using all the USB ports for the peripheral devices.
I usually shutdown the machine (from Start -> Shutdown) at night after it has run all day. Occasionally, I let it run for 2 days in a row. I have not seen any issues after cold restart or after the machine goes to sleep on its own or after I put it to sleep (Start -> Sleep) -- this is when the blue light turns yellow on the CPU.
