I 've had the computer for 1 WEEK and it has frozen over and over and over and over again! Basically every time i turn it on i can be guaranteed that it will lockup and freeze, requiring a hard restart.
I have tried every tech suggestion after spending 2 hours on the phone each nite with them this past week.
They keep telling me "give it one more day to see if the problem resolves itself"
i am sure this is the strategy until the 21 day return window runs out!
Anway i am returning it, only because i have exhausted every other option.
Updated BIOS, drivers, windows updates, no change in performance crashing
System recovery completed successfully TWICE, but the tech suggested i purchase recovery disks (no way!)
Hardware diagnostic tests on the entire system and individual components passed with flying colors THREE TIMES!
no major conflicts present themselves and yet magically, the computer continues to malfunction and crash.
One technician suggest i open up the tower and reseat the harddrive and cables for RAM, which is not something i feel comfortable doing to a 1 week old computer that is expensive!
The internet signal gets dropped all the time and occasionally this drop will freeze the entire computer, requiring a hard restart.
i had a laptop right next to this machine that was surfing the internet beautifully.
But to get to the point - i bought this computer to RECORD, PRODUCE, and EDIT electronic music.
I bought it to replace my older hp pavillion laptop that had worked wonderfully for 5 years.
The computer looks cool and everything, but the operational problems started the first day. If the computer doesnt work, it doesnt matter HOW cool it looks!
I had downloaded a trial version of a popular recording software from the developer only to have the device lock and blue-screen with an "Uncorrectable hardware error" after using the software. by the way, good luck finding software that is TRULY compatibile with this computer, although many titles say that they will work on a 64 bit OS, that is not the case with this computer. Also many hardware components like audio interfaces are not compatible with the 64 bit Operating System.
Sound recording software Froze multiple times, had to restart.
I opened the software again and the audio started cutting out and skipping in the recording software, not what i'd expect for the price (nearly 2 GRAND!!!)
It has more than enough computing power to handle these tasks, why is it crashing all the time?
I tried burning a cd with the Power2Go software that came from HP on the computer and guess what!? got a blue screen of death error "cannot complete clock interrupt" and the computer shut itself down and restarted into recovery mode!
it doesnt take much searching on the internet to find many users experiencing the same crushing errors and freezes that i have.
It appears that the only fix is to get rid of the computer entirely, and that is exactly what i am doing today.
I am returning the computer for a refund and i have to say i am more than saddened by this because i thought HP had awesome products.
Instead of making my life easier this computer has done nothing but cost me time, energy, and happiness.
Do not buy this computer if you want a system without flaws.
Don't make the same mistake i have and definately dont waste your time.
I have already done that for you!

Same thing happens with mine, the fan kicks up and then never kicks down, until restart. That's good news I wasn't aware you could lower it in the panel. Did you get your new replacement yet, A funny thing happened to me today FedEx knocked on my door, they had a ship back label for me for my present HP Pc. I called my case manager he told me that I should ship my old PC back after recieving my new one, so at least for me they weren't expecting it back before my new one.
How did things work out for you today? did you find out what the deal was with your new PC?

With regard to your eSATA issue I purchased a WB My Book and had the same issues. Worked OK on USB 2 but not eSATA. I he reformated the drive for NTSF on USB 2, installed the latest JMB36X driver 1.17.50.2 per previous messages in this string and it seems to now work OK. If the drive disappears from the computer drive listing I unplug the drive power cord and reinstall and it automatically shows up.

Fortunately Crashin_Karl is in the 21 day period to return the computer. See my post at the end of page3 of "Pavillion elite e9180t freeze". For those of us who can't send in the computer for repair before we pull and replace a blue chip. I have 20/30 vision and there is no blue chip nor can anyone else find a blue chip. They claim they must follow the routine and you must also purchase System Recovery Disks from HP. I have those I made when the computer arrived, but they want you to purchase new ones. For those who can't return their computers for repair, I recommend the advise of Nounours on 8/31: Do the cold/warm reboot and report the results. I have had no problem since 10/7 following this proceedure. In fact I will have no more dealings with HP at the present time. This is a simpler solution.

They had a most dramatic and satisfying response to my email:

yep that how mine is working now on USB. I'm in the process of starting a reformat in NTFS now I didn't realize it was formated in FAT32. I'll try the updated Sata driver as well. thanks for the input. I'll let you know how it goes.

To those of you that have had the issue of the graphics card fan continuing to run in high speed even after exiting a 3D game and only being able to resolve it by rebooting your computer, I believe I may have a solution for you. I'm running an e9180f with an Nvidia GS250 graphics card. The problem is with the graphics driver. Nvidia has had issues with this with several of their recent drivers. I think you'll find the fan problem resolved by downloading the latest driver from their website It's the 191.07 driver. The 186.18 driver also works well and solves the problem. If you run the utility GPU-Z you'll find that with a normal desktop screen and no games running that the GPU Core Clock will be at 300 mhz, GPU Memory Clock at 100 mhz. and your fan speed at 35%. When I come out of a game and immediately run GPU-Z my GPU Core Clock is 738 mhz. and my GPU Memory Clock is at 1000 mhz. Fan speed is in the upper 70% range (depends on the complexity of the game and how long I've been playing.) If you continue to monitor GPU-Z in a short time you'll then see your core clock and memory clock speeds drop back down to 300 and 100 mhz. respectively and you fan speed should settle back down to 35% The 191.07 driver seems to be a good one and I've had no other graphics issues with it.
I'm going to stick my neck out here and say that I'm not convinced that our freeze and BSOD issues are motherboard defects, but rather timing issues that might possibly yet be resolved with continuing bios tweaks. No hard evidence, just gut feel. I run Microsoft Flightsim X frequently and use Saitek yoke and rudder pedals and have noticed some unusual issues that depend upon whether I try to use them when cold booting or after rebooting. These are USB connected devices for those of you that are not familiar with them. I'll elaborate when I'm able to collect more data.
I know many of us have experienced the freezes at ramdom times after a cold boot but seldom if ever after rebooting. A lot of random actions can take place after a computer startup, including auto software update programs going online, virus updates, and other assorted actions when the computer detects no activity after a given time. During a cold boot maybe some register is set and contributes to the freeze, but resets differently after a reboot because of a reorder of startup programs. Problems that may be timing critical. Just a thought.

xps 9000 only from retail not online lol or else you will suffer from waiting...specially if they cancel it if u cant talk to them after waiting for so long...or!!!!like what i did i exchaange it for a hp pavilion p6180t right now its best choice for me good gaming computer and cheaper just not as good since it only got 300 watt but it doesnt have the problem
is true tou that the bsod is caused by having low power supply to operate the i7 processor?
