Would be most grateful if you'd remove my m9600t from the poxy category on your list.

That HP replacement Truckee 1.04E01 board (part # 594415-001) and the American Megatrends 5.24 BIOS released 10/29/2009 works just fine. Been a week now, over a dozen cold boots without a freeze and not a BSOD seen.  Heretofore mine was an automatic freeze after a cold start, frequent BSOD and the occasional auto reboot.  IMO opinion there is only ONE fix---the 1.04E01 MOBO & 5.24 BIOS.  All the rest of the snake oil being bandied about (like disabling the firewire/1394 port, changing video cards, double booting, ad nauseam) is simply like putting a band aid on a broken leg.

Will be awhile before I fully trust my system, but it sure looks like HP finally got it right.  If not, I'll be back.  Since I no longer have a misfiring machine and therefore nothing further to contribute I'm out of here.  If anyone needs me send an owl---I'll be setting on the beach drinking cold beer...

One last thought: my guess is that HP has not released the 5.24 BIOS update to the great unwashed since it probably is designed only for the 1.04E01 motherboard.

I guess I am in a similar situation, my 9600 MOBO just died for the third time so I am typing this on my trusty 8 year old dell. I have the newest version 1.04E01 motherboard on the way and should be delivered today with the Tech scheduled to install it tuesday along with the new 5.24 BIOS.  I knew my pc was going to crash again as the shutdowns started occurring more frequently and my mouse cursor was always real jumpy. I had dreaded calling support again and was just hoping for the best, but once it died I had no choice. Luckily I got a US based support person and he was great to work with, I didn't have to do any of the troubleshooting he just took my info and got me scheduled for the repair.  I asked about issues with this MOBO and he said he wasn't famiilar with any, I asked if he was familiar with an email notification and he checked and confirmed that there was one (on Nov 11 I believe) about the truckee MOBO.

Anyway, this MOBO will be my FOURTH and hopefully final one. I will let everyone know how it responds after I get some time on it. For anyone who still doubts it is a MOBO issue, well, I don't know what else to tell you..

Potato Not as Small as One Would Think

oddweb,

I have no doubt about what you wrote here. We're very small potatoes to HP so they just want us to give them our money and go away. They assume there will be no spillover to the markets they care about and that the people they care about, corporate purchasing managers will ignore the negative trade press and regular press coverage this issue has caused. They believe that bad customer support will not matter more than 0.1% or some such to their bottom line.

They're totally ignoring the lessons of the car companies where bad products caused the downfall of Detroit. Given short term thinking, maybe the current management team does not care what happens in, say, 10 years. But sooner or later, sub-standard products and support will matter. It always does eventually.

HP has a "tip of the iceberg" problem here. Although most of us are reporting problems with systems purchased for home or home business use, many of us either work in or are retired from management positions in IT and carry over our home experience to our companies, where equipment is replaced every few years -- definitely not small potatoes.

Re: Elite e9150t Feezes/Locks up

I replied to this thread a little over a month ago about my e9150t that I received back in july. When I last posted here on this thread I explained that I havent had any of the issues that have been brought up in this thread. I stated then that I never had a freeze or lock up at all but that I kept my PC on most of the time. Then I was told here that the problem happens after the PC comes out of sleep mode and/or boot ups and restarts.

So since that time, over the past month and a half I have been putting my e9150t into sleep mode throughout the day and turning it off every night and some days during the weekend. And I have yet once since the day Ive owned this computer had a lock up or freeze. Never happened while using Vista and hasnt happened since upgrading to Win7 on Oct 22. Never froze up before or after BIOS 5.22.

So I just gotta say again, I am one perfectly satisfied e9150t owner!!!

Heres my e9150t unboxing for anyone interested:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwVh8AJkSig

Re: Elite e9150t Feezes/Locks up

In an earlier post to this thread I said my problems with my e9180t had been solved.  So far so good.  I forgot to indicate that my computer received the following:

1.04E01 motherboard and the new 5.24 BIOS

This has made all the difference in the world.  Couldn't be happier except how I was jerked around.

Re: Elite e9150t Feezes/Locks up

Hey folks,

I haven't posted here in a while, although I've been following closely.

Just to refresh, I have an m9600t, truckee 1.03, bios 5.22, assembled in Mexico, purchased 3/31/09

This box has been sent back twice for freezing and bsod's, and came back both times with something else done, but the freezing and bsod's  were not addressed.  I have been reluctant to send it in again, hoping that HP would finally start doing the right thing.

A while back I read a post where someone had their own Win 7 software, not an upgrade, and had totally wiped the HD, and installed win7 without all of HP's software, and reported that the machine was stable.  I thought well, what have I got to lose, as I was seriously considering taking the box to a good computer place in town and having them replace the mobo and power supply.

So I wiped everything and installed win7 pro, and left the machine on for long periods of time with no problems.  The only thing I saw was a screen asking for a boot disk, and to "hit any key" one morning.  I'm not sure what happened there, because it happened over night.  I had to reboot with the power button, and it ran for a couple days again, no problem.

Today, I decided to hit the sleep key on the keyboard to see what would happen.  A couple hours later I woke it and was surfing the net, and she BSOD'd.  So much for that experiment!

This afternoon, I used the recovery disks I made when I first got the machine and completely wiped the HD again, and restored it back to the factory configuration.  So it's back to dealing with HP again, hoping they can get it right, or take it to somewhere local and pay to make it right.  Folks are reporting success with getting the E01 boards and the 5.24 bios, so maybe that's the answer.  Man, do I hate the thought of going through that process again.

I have to ask for two service orders, because the box came back last time with the blue ray/lightscribe drive not even recognized by the machine.  If I mention that first, that will get fixed and the rest of the stuff will be ignored again.  Patience, I must have patience.

An even bigger rip off is the fact that the e9290f doesn't have a Blu-ray player, at least the GTX260 is an upgrade over the GTS250.  Did you buy an e9290f or did HP exchange your system for one?  My case manager offered to exchange my e9180f through the store I bought it at, but I've seen a lot of negative reviews on the Best Buy USA site reporting the same freezing problem as the e9180f.  I'm in Canada like you and I'd go for the exchange if the systems at Future Shop have the new E01 revision of the motherboard, but they can't tell me because they don't have one on display that they can open up.  I would hate to exchange my e9180f that has the Blu-ray drive if I ended up with a freezing e9290f with no Blu-ray drive.  That would just add insult to injury.

Re: Elite e9150t Freezes/Locks up

Speaking of blu ray drives Tiger direct has a great deal on the Pioneer BDR-205. It's a 12X burner for 199.00 with free shipping. With google checkout you can get it 189.00. People are still selling drived with less features for the same price and even greater.

Re: Elite e9150t Feezes/Locks up

HP sent three 9150 computers trying to get one that would work.  All three were sent back.  I finally bought a Dell 8000 that works great.  My question is the Windows 7 upgrade discs that HP has sent me.  Can I use these discs to upgrade any computer with Windows XP or Vista or them or are these upgrades specific to the 9150?  I have an old computer with Windows XP on it and thought I could upgrade it with one of Win 7 upgrade disc.  Let me know what you think.

Thanks

HP tattoo's the BIOS so the disks will only work on their systems.

Re: Elite e9150t Feezes/Locks up

Just got a refurb e9150t yesterday.  First BSOD happened today.  1.03 Truckee  HP recommends a system restore.  Looks like they're still peddling the same advice.
