After dealing with the tech support guy who was no help at all, I finally got transferred to returns/exchanges. Then after a full 2 hrs on the phone, I think everything is straightened out. I'm getting a replacement, and they are accepting the return packaged from FedEx. I've just had previous experiences where if an item wasn't returned exactly packaged as it was sent, it wasn't accepted.
andy, does the m9600t have the same pegatron mobo?
And just as a last note...of course I haven't had any problems with this current machine since I've called to get it replaced...typical.

No I did not have the box's. My girlfriend thru them away. They told me to take the computer to any Fed Ex place and pay to have them pack it up and that would be OK. They Emailed me a shipping tag to put on it. This was all yesterday and they said I should get the new one by Aug. 7 . I will let all know how the new one is.

PC, thanks for the note back. I asked the obviously-new support guy about the boxes and he had to go ask someone but came back saying just as you did, take it to any FedEx (does that include Kinko's type place?) and pay for the packaging. So I'm all squared away.
Just curious, did you all order replacements of the same model/specs? After I placed the "replacement" order with the exact same specs on the phone, I thought to myself that I should have gone with something different. I'm going to really kick myself if this one is buggy also. I guess it doesn't matter, I'll just return that one for my money back and build my own like I should have done from the start.

When I arranged for a new machine they told me the 3.33 processor was no longer available and would I accept the 3.00. At this point I don't care if I have the biggest baddest machine so I said OK. I just want the new one to work trouble free. One of the reasons I sent the original back is that I did a sfc/scannow under command prompt and it came up with (corrupted files found, unable to repair) I am relatively new to computers so don't know how serious this is. After that I ordered a recovery kit from HP and reinstalled. The first thing I did was another sfc scan and it came up corrupted again. If this is no big deal would someone let me know. When I get the new one I'm going to scan it too and it will freak me out if it's corrupted.

My personal belief is that it is a motherboard problem. I shipped off my initial e9150t today, but last night while it was running one last time, it blue screened again. This time it came down to saying it was due to the 1394 firewire port's driver. I had never plugged anything into firewire, nor do I own anything that has a firewire cable! I think they skimped on the motherboard in order to sell the new i7 processors at a lower cost, but eventually it will come back to bite them hardcore.
rokskid, call them and get a replacement or even return the thing on the whole. There is nothing you will be able to do that will cause it to stop freezing/bsod.
Cee-Cee, have you received your replacement yet? If you have, are there any issues with it?

skinny_sc (and any other interested parties): I received my replacement e9150t yesterday, exactly 1 week after I sent the lemon back. I set it up late yesterday, and have used it then and today. So far no lockups. I took a look inside the hood and the only difference that I noticed is that the 12GB of memory chips are now made by Samsung (green in color), whereas the lemon e9150t had Hynix Semiconductor/Hyuandai Electronics (blue in color) memory chips. The motherboard is a Pegatron at it appears to be the same as the lemon, but I cannot find the model# inscribed on it, which should be "IPMTB-K" according HP. Other than the name "Pegatron", I only found "PN: 517194-001 Rev. A05, CT: P ATXU 3F OZ XH 055" inscribed on it. However, on HP's PC Doctor it gives the motherboard it found as a Pegatron Truckee v1.04 with Intel X58 chipset, whereas for the lemon it was Truckee v1.03. The BIOS is the same, namely, a American Megatrends 5.13 4/30/2009.
You might want to check and record these specs of your lemon so that you can compare it to your replacement. Maybe we can find what the culprit was by comparing notes. After all, HP is not saying anything.
So far so good, but it is too early to hail victory. But, I will keep everyone posted and my fingers crossed.
