Re: HP Invent Boot Up Screen frozen, tried almost everything.

Excactly the same problem here, on a desktop m9860sc; frozen on start-up, hanging on the HP blue-page with the f10-f12 setup options etc, but no response whatsoever from the keyboard, mouse, startup-cd or anything but the off-button !! %&"#

Have tried power on/off in various ways, vacuum-cleaned it, started up with/without memory-sticks, and without anything connected- same result.

Doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the power-supply. Would like to disconnect the power to the hard-disc and boot again, but the cords are hard to get to, so haven't tried that.

Could this be a malfunctioning hard-disc?? Or is it a software-problem??

Hard to believe that none of the HP-rep's around here would not have a clue..!??

Re: HP Invent Boot Up Screen frozen, tried almost everything.

I have been dealing with this same problem; I have an HP Pavillion a1130n, with XP, ser pk 3. I tried everything also, but I read somewhere on another post that a person took out one of the DIMM sticks and started the computer and it booted right up. Then he put the memory back in and it booted up ok again. I did it and it worked so I thought it was ok, but I had to power down because of a thunder storm and when I tried booting up again, it was the same old story - blue invent screen and my power button will not turn it off. I have to unplug the CPU. I will undertake to get one of the memory sticks out again and it will probably work but this is not fix. It will get old having to do that because we have a lot of storms and this method is going to get old. Would appreciate any help I can get.

Re: HP Invent Boot Up Screen frozen, tried almost everything.

I have read so many of these same complaints on the internet. Since this is such a widespread problem, couldn't HP come up with a patch to fix it?

Re: HP Invent Boot Up Screen frozen, tried almost everything.

After days of searching for a solution, I have found that this problem is affecting lots of different models of HPs. Looks like since this problem is so wide-spread, HP could find what the problem is and create another Service Pack or patch.

Re: HP Invent Boot Up Screen frozen, tried almost everything.

Agree ! Hopefully a patch will do, but it seems to react to nothing. Afraid it might be a hardware problem, maybe the WD Caviar hard-disc inside..? - Anybody who knows if this might be symptoms of a hard disc failure ? Next thing for me is probably a thorough check of the whole system in a workshop, and I'm afraid fixing it will cost 50% of a new desktop.

Re: HP Invent Boot Up Screen frozen, tried almost everything.

I know I'm a newbie at this but I still think since it is so widespread that HP should take accountability and create a fix. It seems that with so many affected and with so many different models, they should come up with something that we could download. I, for  one cannot afford to put out a lot of money for repairs much less a new computer.
