HP Pavilion Elite M9517c will not turn on??

I have only had my computer 2 years...never had an issue. This weekend noticed a burnt smell, realized it was coming from my computer. Unplugged everything, replugged the power back in and now computer will not turn on? From what I can tell nothing appears to be damaged. When plugging in the power cord, the green light in the back of the tower does turn on but once I hit the power button it acts as though the computer will boot up but immediately shuts down and the light then turns off. (the fans do appear to start rotating but shut off immediately with the computer)

Could this be the Power source gone bad?

Others have sad maybe its the motherboard?

Im at a loss and frustrated...Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.....

Hello k-ray, The burning smell does not seem to be a good omen. This smell could be coming from any component in the system, but more likely the power supply or the motherboard.

Here  is a link that has some information on checking power supply issues.

You might try these suggestions and see if you can determine the source of the burning smell.

You might also take the side panel off and smell the power supply for this burn smell, after disconnecting the power cord of course.
