My HP Pavilion a6780a, which is running Windows Vista SP2, makes these abnormal internal noises, and is obviously affecting the start-up of the computer.
The question is - what's the noise (I think it's the fan or the hard drive, but it could be something else altogether) and how do I deal with it?
The links are to videos of the computer starting up (on the second attempt), and the noises typically made whilst it is running.

sounds like there is a wire hitting the fan.
open up your system and make sure the cables are away from the fan. Over time...vibrations can cause cables to move into those fans...pretty easy fix.
and yeah it can affect start up...but really easy fix. here is a link to how to open your system:
good luck
