Marilug, welcome to the forum.
When requesting help, you should always include the make/model of the computer and/or monitor. This information is necessary for us to review the specifications of them.
This sounds to me like a failed power supply unit (PSU). Here is a guide to help you troubleshoot the problem. It would help to know exactly what happens when you push the power button. Also, have you checked all of the connections?

I have the same problem with my Pavilion slimline s3321p. less than 3 years old. It locks up and will not turn on but the green light on the back is on. A yellow light sometime flashes from the power button.

Like Old_Geekster said, I would check the power supply:

I'm not familiar with that model. Can you list the full name of the product? (for example, Pavilion H8-1010)
