When starting my desktop, it freezes at the startup screen (the blue screen with the options such as F8 F9 F10; I am able to get into the BIOS settings, but I am unsure what to change on that? Also after a while, it becomes fuzzy and freezes. I have tried unplugging it and then plugging it back in, but still the same issue. Please help ASAP. Thanks

Hi,
When was the last time that you cleaned the dust out of the PC?
Unplug the PC and open it up. Clean out all the dust. Carefully remove and replace all the cables going to the motherboard one at a time. Do the same for the memory dimms and the video and sound cards if you have any. You might want to buy a can of compressed air to blow the dust out of the CPU heat sink. Plug your PC back in and give it a go.

Hello,
I tried that out. I opened it up, and cleaned it with the air duster. Its still the same issue. I also unplugged the power cord, and then waited a while and plugged it back in. Doesnt seem to be a dust buildup problem. If it is an issue with the motherboard, is there any way I can recover my data on my computer?

Hello FixMyissues, If the hard drive is not faulty, you may be able to remove it from the case and install it in another system as a second hard drive and retrieve the data from the hard drive.
Here is the link for the specifications for your system, and it shows the system shipped with a 320 GB Sata II hard drive.
Just a thought.

Hello,
So I ran a diagnostic test and it turned out the memory was a problem. So I took the RAM sticks out (2 GB) and took the ram from my other desktop to see if it woudl work and it did. So i went to the store and bought 2 GB ram. Now that I put it in, turns out only 1 slot works out of the 2. But even then it freezes after a while of using the computer. Could it be that the motherboard has gone bad??

Hello FixMyIssues, It seems you are making some progress. You must know that most HP/Compaq computers require specific memory modules for these systems.
Some generic memory will work but most will not work properly. Only certified memory will work properly in most HP/Compaq systems.
Here is a link to Crucial Memory that shows some certified memory that is compatible for your system.
It is always possible that the motherboard could be faulty.

I have the same problem. The HP a6600f freezes up at start up.
The HD works perfect. I moved it to another computer and retreived the files.
The Memory was removed and authentic memory was replaced. Still freezes at start up.
The only solution now is to replace the motherboard.
Please provide me with the part number for a compatible or better motherboard.
