When you reset the computer to factory settings does the computer start freezing up before you start reinstalling programs? Can I ask how you use your computer? How often does it freeze? Does it for instance only freeze when you use the internet?
There is a lot of things that could lead to a computer freezing up so we have to start isolating the issue as much as possible to narrow down the troubleshooting. Right now anything can be the culprit.

I have an HPE-400 that qualifies for this repair, but it is working at the moment.
I have an HP Pavilion a4316f that is not working. It was OK till a week ago. It started throwing various errors and rebooted a number of times. Error messages were anything from no disk drive found to USB device errors.
Chkdsk reported tons of errors. So it went from working to non working during the course of six hours. Now this machine is less than 3 years old and should still have a long life ahead of it. I did run the HP diagnostics on it after the first reboot and it passed with flying colors. Now, it may or may not boot. I have put the disk drive in another HP machine and tested it out. It has passed all the tests so far. Chkdsk fixed a lot of file system errors but reported no bad sectors. This leads me to believe that the error is in the motherboard, power supply or memory of the A4316F. So how do I find out if there is a repair, extended warranty, or advisory out for this other model?

I bought an HP for my daughter when she graduated college 2 years ago. Of course it only came with a one year warranty, and we started experiencing problems right after the warranty expired. She has issues about every three months. We have an easy temporary solution to her problem that might or might not work for you. I think it's definately worth a try. All we do is reseat the memory. Pop them out one by one and put them back in. Turn it back on and it boots up. Works for about two or three months then we do it again.

Interesting, I will have to give it a try. But I have run Memtest86+ without errors.
I have taken the hard drive and tested it on another machine and it passed all tests there. I put a new, tested hard drive in my machine and it also fails. I have also seen that sometimes the DVD drive is not recognized. The BIOS reports no drives installed. Turn it off, wait a few minutes, turn it on and it sometimes works.
The next thing I will try is either different ports on the motherboard, or a different power supply.

I also have a Hp p6823 w that has went from bad to worse over the last couple of months. I bought it in September 2011 so it is only a little over a year old. A couple of weeks ago I was getting bluescreens every other day and then I started getting them several times a day. I ran every diagnostic I knew of but it always passed. Then it quick working at all for a couple of days. I ended up resetting it to factory settings but it would quit during startup when installing necessary files, restart and do the same thing over and over. I finally went in and restored factory settings again and it finally worked. After a day or two I thought I was in the clear but it started bluescreening all the time again. It showing all kinds of different errors like: PFN_LIST_CORRUPT, BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER, BAD_POOL_HEADER, etc. It tries to run CHKDSK but says cannot get direct access to system volume due to recently installed software package. It won't let me perform microsoft system restore. Windows explorer keeps having problems occur and shutting down. Sometimes when I turn the power on the computer it starts up but my monitor doesn't come on and when I turn it off then on again it says it is not active-monitor going to sleep. I am having many more problems than these but there is so many it is hard to remember them all. I have tried writing down as many of them as I could. Do any of these problems fit any specific issue that might be wrong with my computer? I desperately need some help of fixing my pc. I attend college online and so my pc is basically my school. This has already caused me a lot of problems with my classes and work. I don't have another computer or money to buy another one. My last computer lasted me 4 years and is still being used by someone else.

a6000 freezes on Blue HP screen- not covered and I've tried every solution in these forums. Funny you can't find anywhere what this "issue" really is. I suspect the motherboard is bad but I hate to dish out $100 just to see. Maybe the power supply or CPU, those are the only 3 things left to do!
