Hi,
Try the following
First of all, uninstall your current version of HP Support Assistant using the Microsoft 'Fixit' on the following link.
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_
After this has completed, restart the PC.
Next download and install the latest version of HP Support Assistant from the page on the link below - the download links are towards the bottom of the page.
http://h18021.www1.hp.com/helpandsupport/hp-suppor
After the installation, restart the PC again.

"Fixit" site appears to be used if you have trouble removing a program using normal methods. Should I try normal add/remove procedure first and then use "Fixit" if there is a problem?

Hi,
The reason I suggest using the 'Fixit' to remove HPSA is because if the application already has issues, it can quite often fail to uninstall correctly, particularly on a 64bit OS, this in turn can cause problems when trying to install it again.
