I have a Pavilion p6130y, approximately two & a half years old. Motherboard is bad, any others?

Took it in for repairs, thought hard drive had failed. Ran HP diagnostics before taking it in, error code no hard drive detected. Took it back to to where purchased which has a squad of agents to repair things. First time in said nothing was wrong and charged me $100.00 to back up my data, something I could have done myself. Took it home, hooked it up, worked about ten minutes and locked up again. Took it back on my lunch hour the next day, three or four days later they called and said motherboard is failing and it's not worth repairing.

This is my fourth HP from this same store. The squad of agents told me that HP has been having these kind of problems. Any one else having similar? Any one know if HP is assisting in the repair or allowing a trade in discount?

Hi Joe,

You might want to search the forum about issues with the M2N78-LA (Violet) motherboard.  You may not like what you find.

Any suggestions on a replacement? I am told it's not worth replacing the motherboard. Have had several HP's and always had good luck with them until this one. Several people have told me HP has had poor quality the last few years. What is a good pc?

Hi,

What is a good PC?  It all depends on your requirements. Performance and future upgrades are some things to think about as is your pocketbook.

BTW, I have used HP, Compaq, IBM and Dell and all of these companies will at times have hardware issues with different models. Even building a custom PC can lead to the purchase of a bad component.  I prefer HP right now due to perhaps a better price/performance ratio but that could change as the competition changes pricing tactics.
