Media Center pc's with P5LP-LE (Emery) (Leonite) motherboards incompatible with PCI-e 2.1!

I can't believe this, no bios update for these boards in over 5 years.

I've been a very loyal supporter to HP for years, but this is just uncool man. I installed the same card into an "emachine" pc that was dated 2 years older than my m7360n media center pc and it worked, that's just wrong.

There seriously needs to be a bios update for this line of motherboards.

Hi,

Yes HP does stabilized support on PCs.  Generally, after one year from when the last model in line or similar model is shipped then updates will be frozen.  There are some exceptions.

What PCI-E card are you trying to use?  I have seen AMD 5xxx video cards not work in older HP PCs.

Sapphire Radeon HD 5570 1GB DDR3 PCI-e (2.1)

I've searched numerous topics on the matter across the net and there seem to be alot of variations with this problem and in general it always gets solved with the solution that these HP motherboards have problems running 2.1 PCI-e cards, which obviously they shouldn't.

Hi,

I don't know if PCI-E 2.1 is just the issue or the AMD 5xxx video cards. I just don't recommend AMD 5xxx video cards for older HP PCs.

Another possible issue is that AMD recommends a 400 watt power supply for the AMD 5xxx cards. Check AMD and the manufacturer's web site for a PSU recommendation.

The below video cards will all work with a 300 watt power supply.

$50--->NVIDIA GT 430 9.6 GB/s --single slot width

$65--->NVIDIA GT 520 8 GB/s -- single slot width

$70---> NVIDIA GT 430 22.4 GB/s – single slot width

$80--->NVIDIA GT 440 25.6 GB/s -- single slot width

$130-->NVIDIA GT 545 43 GB/s -- single slot width ---- might be hard to find but perhaps only in the store

$110-->NVIDIA GT 240 1GB DDR5. 54.4 GB/s  single slot width This card doesn't support DirectX 11 which is optionally used in some of the newer PC games but it is an excellent performer.

I use a 500 watt power supply. Taking the time to list some cards that are compatible is much appreciated, ironically enough they are all 2.0 PCI-e cards.

Considering that I have a 2004 emachine that has no problem running the AMD Sapphire (which is a top brand), I really don't understand the inability to do a bios update to these motherboards. I think there has been one bios update since release.

I haven't had a problem with the card, i've had a problem with the HP, maybe you could pass this information along to your superiors as I know i'm not alone in this situation and i'm really quite surprised noone else has spoken up about it yet. I've bought 2 HP PC's (retail) in the past 5 years and I have to say the lack of adequate bios updates is starting to become a concern of mine with the company.

Hi,

This is a peer-to-peer user forum.  I am just a user and I am not an employee or contractor for HP.

Yes, I agree that Saphire is an excellent brand. I frequently recommend Sapphire video cards.
