My Presario S6300NX with Windows XP Slow Operation

When I turn my computer on, it takes at least 7 to 10 minutes before the

Windows XP page opens.  Then it takes another 5-minutes beore Internet Explorer

will open.  Additionally, the systems seems to lock up where its just churning but

never gets to the page or action it's suppose to do.  I usually have to unplug the

computer to shut it off.  Can you offer suggestions/recommendations to speed

the computer up?

Re: My Presario S6300NX with Windows XP Slow Operation

Here are the specs for your Compaq Presario S6300NX Desktop Computer. Your computer is about 8 1/2 years... there is a number of thing that could cause the computer to run slow. Your hard drive could be getting full or going bad. The Windows XP registry file could be excessively large and/or contain many errors. I would perform a HP Recovery to return the system to a factory like state and go from there.

Re: My Presario S6300NX with Windows XP Slow Operation

Frank,

Thank you for your suggestions.  I thought about the recovery, but because I'm not technically knowledgeable, I didn't want to do anything that would cause me worse problems.  I use this computer for my grandchildren.  I purchased the new HP Pavillion in March.  I will try your suggestions and let you know the results.  Thank you so much.
