Pavilion CPU hot - fan always running hard

Hello everyone,

We have a HP Pavilion a1110n.  The CPU is very hot and the fan is always running hard.  The unit is clean, the maximum amount of ram is installed, and I've scanned for viruses and spyware.  Even in Bios with no software running, the CPU shows as 195-200 degrees.

The CPU usage can range from 4-20% and other times 80-100% for no apparent reason.  Even at low CPU usage, the fan is almost always running.  I've tried removing the side access panel for better cooling, updating the graphics driver, updating the bios, removing unneeded software, etc.

I see many people (on the internet) have complained about the Pavilion fan always running, but none of the suggestions have worked.

Please, Please help!

Start Task Manager and look for processes and applications that are driving your CPU utilization high.

Re: Pavilion CPU hot - fan always running hard

Good suggestion, but the fan runs at high speed even at 0-5% CPU usage.  Can't find any "fan control" options in the bios or power options (as with some notebook computers).  Maybe the Celeron processor is just not powerfull enough to handle today's technology.  I wonder if programs like Skype, or Magic Jack are sucking up the resources.  We don't use Magic Jack any more, but is was installed a while back.

But again, fan will run at high speeds even with low CPU usage.

Still a mystery!

Re: Pavilion CPU hot - fan always running hard

Try this procedure:

Unplug the PC and open it up. Clean out all the dust. Carefully remove and replace all the cables going to the motherboard one at a time. Do the same for the memory dimms and the video and sound cards if you have any. Plug your PC back in a give it a go.
