I purchased a Pavilion Elite HTP-500y and HP-23" Flat-Panel LED HD Monitor-2311x on July 13th, 2011. I've had major problems playing videos, especially on youtube.
When I play a video, I get a "Display Diver Has Stopped Responding And Has Recovered" and "Display Driver AMD Has Stopped Responding But Has Successfully Recovered" message on the bottom right of my screen. If I continue to play the video or play a video later in the day, I get a blue screen and the computer crashes and restarts.
This problem started occurring right out of the box. Is this a defective computer that needs to be returned? Or, can this problem be resolved...and, if so, how?

Have you checked the HP web site to see if there are any updates?
If this is a discrete card (it has its own model number, and isn't part of the motherboard), you can also check the AMD web site for driver upgrades. In fact, it's possible that the display properties window has an option to check for updates.

Thank you for your reply! I checked HP and Windows for updates... everything seems up to date. I installed the latest drivers from AMD. I also checked for updates though the display properties window - all up to date.
It's still doing the same thing.... I went to a web site, played a video, then played another and received the same message. If I were to try to play it again, the computer will freeze and shut down.
I'm at a loss. I did a search and found I am not the only one who has this exact problem with this model computer. But, no one has a solution. I was hoping I could resolve this with the change of a setting or installing an update.

I've had the same problem for a year now. No upgrades or downgrades fixed the problem.
Quick fix is to uninstall the driver for the graphic card. Everything works fine with outit, but you'll lose a lot of nice settings. For example, I can't use my monitor with widescreen settings. =/
