The rest of us e9180t users welcome you to the club. From whats going around the critics from CNET to PC Magazine is HP went and used an inferior motherboard to try to be the first out of the door using the new i& chips. I am having the problems as a lot of us here in the forum. To be honest we all take a chance just turning this TURKEY on. The only thing that works real well is my Sound Blaster. I think if I wanted a nice stereo I could have done better.
SHAME ON YOU HP.

You have vista correct?
Did any of the diagnostic tests come back with anything?
When you start up the machine how far does it get until it shuts down?

I too received the blue screen with the occasional message "hardware malfunctioned". I am using Vista Home Premiuim, 64 bit.
Yesterday, l went to the HP support site, got a nice chap who wanted to take over the computer which I alllowed. Believe he was in India. He did the following and provided me with the list:
1. click on START/type %temp% in start search and click on enter/temp folder opens/delete all items in the folder
2. click on START/type prefetch in start search and click on enter/click on continue and prefetch folder opens/delete all items in the folder
3. click on START/ type disk cleanup and follow the instructions
We kept getting the message: User Account Control not turned on. (I am the only user so I never turned it on). He turned it on.
So far in 24 hours I have not had a freeze which is very, very unusual for me.
How would all of the temp files get so big on a new computer?
Arnie

Hi:
Low end processor? My god you have the newest and most exciting processor known to man and the computer world.
I have the same freezing problems as most of us here. I also hold a Master's of Computer Science and know a little bit about computers. Now that said, I have put my new machine through a battery of tests and all I can come up with is the stinking motherboard. Flimsy and poorly made I truly believe that's the problem. I believe the board when overheated expands and with the BIOS installed it does what it"s suppose to do, SHUT DOWN, but it doesn't,. It freezes instead. Yes HP has a bad product but all companies have a TURKEY going out the door.
We are only reading about the issue here on this forum platform. How many others having the same problem don't belong here. I would estimate about 60% don't.
I think the repair the repair will be in the form of a BIOS update and they will sneak it in the updates section and turn their backs hoping this will work.
Just releasing steam.
P.S. I have a e9180t fully loaded
LG 27" monitor
Logitech cordless desktop wave pro keyboard & MX 1100 rechargeable mouce.

There are 1,150 postings in the related forum for the HP Pavillion 9150. all the symptoms are EXACTLY the same as people with the 9180. The only difference seems to be when it occurs which is totally at random, i.e - its not anything people are doing that causes it. The common thread seems to be that a lot of BSOD occur when the machine puts itself to sleep. I am debating whether to get a replacement or just get a refund. Is there a comparative machine out there made by another manufacturer (apple excluded, their machines cost 2X as much)? There are dozens of pages of people getting BSOD, freezes even with the computer right out of the box. Tech support makes people go on wild goose chases but from what I can tell they don't even have a clue. It also doesn't sound like this JUST started happening so I'm not sure why they haven't gone full steam with an investigation and come out with a resolution. Does anyone know if the clock resets on the refund policy 21 days if you get a replacement for a lemon? Otherwise a refund might be in order.
I have had my machine for less than a week and I get about 2 or 3 BSODs a day and it will freeze when just in IE with no other applications running. I'm afraid to see what it does when I use it for what I got it for and run intensive video and audio programs.

Hi:
Thanks for the reply. I have read all of the threads to this problem, well most of them anyway. There is definitely something wrong here. I have an advantage over most of you here, 1-I am retired and 2-I have an unde graduate and Graduate degree in Computer Scienc and know how to read and write code. Rember in school when there was always that kid who just got it and you didn't? Well I am one of those kid in computers. After school and thr real world of internship and owning my own business for many years, It is my opinion that that HP dropped the ball on these models. To start they have a very bad motherboard and BIOS. HP knows about these problems but like most large corporations stick their heads in the sand hoping someone will tell them what to do. The techs are frustrated and get short on the calls and HP is starting to get a bad name. As you have read HP are taking back and repairing these machines by putting in a new motherboard but not changing the BIOS I think they have to rewrite the BIOS as well. I rewrote mine and the 9180 runs a lot smoother and with no hick-ups.
My suggestion is to send your machine back in for repair. Get yjem to pay for the return shipping as well. I have done a lot of research on the net and I still can't find anything as good on the market. Of course if you feel good around the inside of a puter you could get a refund and build your own. Think about that for a second or two before you do. If the new machine doesn't work who are you going to turn to, only yourself.
I know this sounded pretty short of me. We are all stuck between a rock and a hard place. I blame HP but also myself for not looking in this forum before ordering.
I so wish you luck with any decision you make. Keep me posted.
