Screen crashing into blank

my screen on HP Touchsmart 300 keeps crashing, and would not reboot till I unplug the machine completely. anybody knows why this is happening, and how to fix it?

There are many possibilities for this. The first thing I'd do is try to narrow down some likely candidates. Ask yourself when the problem first started. Have you made any changes to the computer since the last time it worked correctly? Any software additions, updates, new hardware? If so, that's the likely culprit. If not, I'd run a comprehensive virus scan to eliminate that possibility.
Also, you might try performing a hard reset. Unplug everything from the computer, including the power cable and hold down the power button for about ten seconds. Plug it back up and see if that solves it. You might also try doing a system restore to a point prior to when the problem began.
The most dramatic software suggestion is a full system recovery that will put the system back into the state it was in when it came out of the box. If none of those work, then you are looking at a component failure. Hope this information helps.
