My USB 3.0 ports were not working. I could plug in a 2.0 device and it would be recognized but when I plugged in a 3.0 device it did not come up. Also if I left the 3.0 device plugged in after shutting down, the computer would not boot up until after I removed the device. I tried reinstalling the usb driver via the HP support website and during that time, the port would work, but after I restarted it would not function once again.
I figured out the problem, it is the "Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible host controller driver" that was causing all this. I uninstalled this program through the control panel and both problems have been fixed. The usb 3.0 ports now function properly and I can leave a device plugged in and the computer will boot without any problem. Hope this helps someone.
