After my computer sits idle for any length of time and I try to use Internet Explorer I get a notice that is not responding and all I can do is turn off the computer and turn it on again. Pavilion Slimline s5-1021P

Hi,
You could try resetting Internet Explorer as follows - be aware that this will remove Bookmarks and Saved Passwords etc.
Open windows Control Panel, open Internet Options, click the Advanced tab and then click the Reset button. Click 'Yes' or 'Ok' to any further prompts required to complete the process.

I was having the same problem but with everything not just explorer. You suggested: From the start menu, open all programs, open accessories, right click the command prompt and select run as administrator in to the prompt type the following command and hit enter: sfc /scannow (and I put a space between sfc and /) I let the process complete and hit enter.
Then I clicked the start menu, clicked computer, left clicked disk c and highlighted it, then right clicked c and selected properties, tools tab and clicked the check the drive for errors button. Checked both boxes on pop up window, agreed to schedule the check at the next system restart and, restarted and when it was finished all of my ICONS on my desktop have black boxes covering them and I still get the not responding. What happened and how can I correct it.
